Snorkel Guide Course Overview
The PADI Snorkel Guide course consists of three separate sections: knowledge development, water skills and practical workshops that should be conducted in that order. Successful candidates are certified as PADI Snorkel Guides, a professional membership level in the PADI organization.
Goals
The goals of the PADI Snorkel Guide course are to:
- Develop a candidate's theoretical knowledge of snorkeling and the environment.
- Develop a candidate's practical snorkeling skills.
- Enable a candidate to safely organize and conduct snorkel excursions.
- Develop a candidate's rescue and emergency management skills.
Participant Prerequisites
To qualify for the PADI Snorkel Guide course, an individual must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care courses (or qualifying courses) within the past 24 months, or, be enrolled in an EFR Primary and Secondary Care course concurrent with this course.
- Have medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months, and have had no medical condition changes.
Course Duration
at least two days (approximately 14-16 hours).
Location
All portions of the Water Skills and Stamina section are in open water.
Certification Requirements
To qualify for certification:
- Complete all knowledge development sections, and successfully complete the Snorkel Guide Knowledge Review
- Meet all stamina assessment and development, snorkeling/skin diving skill and rescue skills performance requirements.
- Complete practical workshops and demonstrate mastery by scoring an overall a score of 3 or higher for both workshops.
